Presented by Music Week, last night’s MUSEXPO Europe Awards recognised the talents and successes of our President Darcus Beese, awarding him the coveted ‘European Executive of The Year’ prize. In the run up to the ceremony, Darcus spoke to Music week about the award, his successes in the industry, and why he “wouldn’t work anywhere else.”
“Darcus is as passionate today about his artists and team as the day we first met,” says Chairman and Chief Executive of Universal Music UK David Joseph. “He embodies the maverick spirit which has always set Island apart as a label and it’s stood him in good stead throughout a truly exceptional year.”
The award follows an incredible year for the label, from Drake’s phenomenal, near-record-breaking 15-week stint at No.1 with One Dance (the first true mega-hit of the streaming era) to number ones for acts as diverse as Will Young, PJ Harvey, Catfish And The Bottlemen, Mike Posner and Ariana Grande.
