Last year, at 20 years old, Jessarae carrying only a small bag and his trusty acoustic guitar, came to the UK to write, and ended up staying. “I went home to LA for two weeks, packed all my stuff, split up with girlfriend and got back on a plane again with my guitar. I didn’t think about it too much, it felt like where I was supposed to be”.
As a teen, Jessarae spent these years locked in his bedroom practising, absorbing and obsessing over music that he naturally gravitated towards. “Hendrix, Joplin, Dylan, The Stones, Tom Waits, The Ramones, Radiohead, Nick Drake, Bob Marley, Bon Iver, Damien Rice…….anything and everything that I felt was real!”
What emerged from that Californian bedroom was both a prodigious guitarist and a gifted songwriter who wanted to take inspiration from the greats and put a youthful spin on that classic sound.
Jessarae’s new EP ‘Stand In The Rain’ is out now.
